Book:Think and Grow Rich
Author:Napoleon Hill
Publisher:Penguin Books

What is needed to become successful in your respective field? Is it talent? The world is full of talent. If talent alone can make everyone successful, you may have found successful people in every street. So what's the secret of people who achieved so much success in their respective fields like Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, and many more.

Think and Grow Rich is a package that gives you the group of principles to achieve success in your respective field. Written by Napoleon Hill, it contains 13 principles to achieve any goal in life. Each principle is the result of the hard work and determination of the author. He interviewed various successful people of his time.

“Do not wait: the time will never be 'just right'. Start where you stand, and work whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.” ― Napoleon Hill

Principles that are mentioned in the book are-

  1. Desire

If you want anything in life, you need to have a burning passion. It is the starting point of all achievements.

  2. Faith

To achieve faith, you need to repeat instructions to your subconscious mind. It is the visualization of desire.

  3. Autosuggestion

The subconscious mind is like a garden. If you would leave it unattended, weeds might grow. Fill it with positive thoughts. Closing your eyes and visualizing your desire can do wonders.

  4. Specialized knowledge

You need to understand some basic fundamental things about learning. Your studies play a slight role in making you rich. Specialization is necessary for a particular field. Knowledge alone cannot do anything without proper planning.

  5. Imagination

You can create anything which you can imagine. Desire is worthless without proper use of vision. Imagination is the workshop of the mind where ideas generate.

  6. Organized Planning

Without proper planning, one cannot accomplish his desires. If one plan fails, you need to replace it with a new one.

  7. Decision

Henry Ford used to reach decisions quickly and then change them slowly. One should be able to make decisions quickly and then change them slowly with a proper understanding.

  8. Persistence

The majority of people lack persistence. With persistent efforts, one can achieve great fortunes.

  9. “A quitter never wins and a winner never quits.” ― Napoleon Hill

  10. Power of Master Mind

Power is organized and intelligently directed knowledge. Plans are useless without sufficient power to make them work.

  11. The Mystery of Sex transmutation

The men who achieved great fortunes in the fields like literature, art, industry, architecture were motivated by the influence of women.

  12. Subconscious Mind

Subconscious mind is a field of consciousness in which every impulse of thought reaches out. It is a connecting link between finite mind and infinite intelligence.

  13. The Brain

Every human brain is capable of receiving vibrations of thought sent out by other brains. Our brain is a broadcasting and receiving station for thought.

  14. The Sixth sense

Sixth sense is a small portion of the subconscious mind, also called creative intelligence. It is developed with continuous practice. After acquiring a sixth sense, you can do things voluntarily without any effort.

“Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds” ― Napoleon Hill

In every chapter, the author talks about money as the end goal. But I think the principles can be implemented to reach any kind of goal. The book was written 80 years ago. It is the only weak point of the book as some examples may seem quite irrelevant. It is a must-read book for those who want to learn the philosophy that successful people used in their own respected fields.
